Large Furoshiki Japanese Cats
Large furoshiki fabric of 68×68 cm with cat print
The furoshiki is a traditional Japanese fabric used to wrap and carry many objects thanks to different folding and knotting techniques. In its origins, this cloth was used as a bundle to carry clothes or toiletries. Nowadays, the furoshiki is mainly used to wrap a gift.
The print on this large furoshiki is a work by Japanese artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Created in 1850, Cats as the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō depicts 55 cats, each embodying a pun on the names of rest stops along the Tōkaidō Road.
