Maneki Neko – Chirimen Zaiku
Japanese Maneki Neko in chirimen zaiku
This adorable Maneki Neko, a Japanese lucky cat, is made from chirimen or crepe fabric. This fabric was used over 400 years ago to make the most refined kimonos of the Tensho period. Scraps of the fabric are used to make chirimen zaiku, a traditional Japanese craft for dolls and decorative objects. Placed on a shelf or chest of drawers, this Maneki Neko will be perfect for attracting luck, happiness and good fortune. The koban, or large gold coin, is a symbol of wealth.
